Sending Out an "SOS:" Security Technology for Schools and More

B-Three Solutions and sibling company, B-Three Software, worked together to develop a unique security solution that is improving school safety in the Pittsburgh area and beyond!

Sight On Scene, or SOS for short, is a comprehensive school safety application that allows districts to create, share, and view interactive building maps, live security camera feeds, emergency preparedness plans, and more with first responders and school staff during an emergency. The technology gives police, fire, and EMS a detailed visual of the structure they will be entering before they even arrive on the scene and empowers school staff with the information they need to confidently respond and act, right from their mobile devices.

When an emergency is logged within the app, all school staff, as well as partnered local first responders, receive a notification that an emergency is ongoing. Teachers can view the security cameras along set escape routes from their classrooms and silently communicate with coworkers and responding officers via the in-app chat. Police, firefighters, and EMTs can use the app to view school floorplans with access to live security camera feeds right from the map.

In addition, the app currently integrates with both PowerSchool and FACTS student information systems to access down-to-the-second attendance data that teachers can use to perform roll call during an emergency, helping to firmly verify the location and status of all students.

At the present time, Sight On Scene is installed in a number of Catholic and Christian schools in the Pittsburgh area and West Virginia.

Beyond the education sector, a mobilized version of the Sight On Scene application is in the proof- of-concept phase for use on mobile medical trailer units. This version will work to secure the medical trailers from theft and vandalism when they are parked on location by outfitting each rig with weather-proof, tamper resistant cameras accessible via the Sight On Scene app, as well as a battery-operated, network-independent power source that can stay online for multiple days at a time without access to power or a standard WIFI connection. App users will include the managing stakeholders, the rig driver, and the healthcare provider on board. All will be able to use the system to log emergencies, view security cameras, and track the unit as it moves across its route.
